My Software Testing Journey: Guided by Krishna

As I reflect on my journey in the world of Software Testing, I can’t help but be amazed at the divine guidance that has shaped my path. Lord Shri Krishna, the ultimate mentor, and guide, has manifested Himself in various forms throughout my career and has helped me to reach to the solutions to various testing problems through his mysterious ways.

Mentors, Leaders, Colleagues & Friends

Much like Lord Krishna’s counsel to Arjun in the Bhagavad Gita, I’ve been fortunate to have mentors, leaders, colleagues, and friends who have provided invaluable insights and support. Their wisdom and guidance have been my North Star, helping me navigate the intricate maze of software testing with grace and precision.

Just as reading the Gita provides answers, I’ve discovered solutions to my testing challenges/problems through the wisdom shared by my mentors in blogs, articles, and personal interactions.

Toolkit of Test Ideas, Heuristics, Tools, Resources, and Books

Just like having Lord Krishna on his side made Arjun feel empowered in the battlefield I’ve encountered a treasure trove of test ideas, heuristics, resources, and books that have illuminated my path. These resources have been my charioteer, guiding me through the ever-evolving landscape of software testing.

Facing the Darkest Fears and Emerging Stronger

In our professional journeys, we often confront our own insecurities, much like Arjun’s internal conflicts on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. At times, I’ve felt lost in the chaos of our industry or grappled with the imposter syndrome. Just as Lord Krishna emerged as a beacon of hope in the darkest hours of the Mahabharata, conferences, community, and peers have been my guiding light, dispelling the shadows of self-doubt and fear. They have acted as my charioteer, helping me confront my deepest anxieties and uncertainties.

Confidence through Competence

Lord Krishna’s teachings remind us that true confidence comes through competence. In the realm of software testing, this translates to a relentless pursuit of knowledge.

How do we build competence? Through the four pillars – Perspective, Perception, Practice, and Perseverance.

  • Perspective: Like Lord Krishna’s profound wisdom, building knowledge broadens our perspective. It helps us see the bigger picture and make informed decisions in our testing practices.
  • Perception: Just listening to the wise words of Krishna or reading the Gita is not enough if we don’t try to understand the essence of it. The ability to understand and absorb knowledge is paramount. Sharpening our perception helps us notice small details in software testing, which leads to better problem-solving.
  • Practice: Similar to Arjun’s dedication in honing his archery skills, we must continuously refine our testing abilities through daily practice.
  • Perseverance: Success doesn’t come overnight in our industry. Despite diligent effort, there may be delays and moments of doubt. It’s during these times that we’re reminded by Krishna to follow our dharma and persevere in the face of adversity.

My Software Testing journey has shown me that Krishna’s wisdom is omnipresent, imparted through various forms—mentors, peers, colleagues, leaders, community, resources, checklists, heuristics, books, blogs, talks, and conferences.

Let me know about your Krishna, who guides your testing.

Wishing everyone a very happy Janmashtami”
